Close up of woman smiling after getting dental veneers at Frank Dunlap, DDS in Houston, TX.Veneers are slim, tooth-colored, shell-like structures made of porcelain or resin that are placed onto the front of your teeth. Each veneer is custom-made for the individual who wants to get them.

Veneers are a dental cosmetic procedure that can improve the appearance of stained, chipped, or damaged teeth.

Frank Dunlap, DDS offers same-day CEREC veneers in Houston, which would otherwise not be available using traditional veneer materials.

CEREC veneers are designed using CAD/CAM technology, which considerably reduces their manufacturing time.

Types of Veneers

There are two varieties of veneers that can be used: porcelain-based, and resin-based.

The porcelain-based veneers are expensive but last a long time; they can last anywhere between ten to twenty years. They do not stain, nor do they chip easily. Moreover, porcelain veneers are naturally the same color as teeth.

The other option is resin-based veneers. These require placement of a resin mixture onto the tooth and hardening using a special light. These veneers are less expensive than porcelain veneers, but they do not last a long time. However, resin veneers can be fixed if they chip or break. Resin veneers stain as years go by and last no longer than five years.

Dental Veneers Procedure

Unless CEREC veneers are used, typical veneer placement takes one or two appointments. During your initial consultation, our team will first use a color scale to match the porcelain veneer color to your natural teeth, and a sample will be sent to the laboratory after an impression of your jaw and teeth are made (if you are getting multiple veneers).

Next, temporary veneers will be placed until your follow-up appointment for the placement of your permanent veneers. During the day of placement of your permanent veneers, our dentist will assess the use of anesthesia; most times, it is not required. However, if you have extremely sensitive teeth, then anesthesia is recommended. To prepare the teeth for veneer attachment, teeth enamel will be removed, allowing better adherence.

The veneers are then attached and fixed using dental cement, and the site is allowed to cure for one minute using a special light. At the end, final touches will be made, and any excess cement removed and cleaned.

Who Should Get Veneers?

Anyone who wishes to improve the aesthetics of their teeth can get veneers. Veneers are an easy fix for dental issues such as large gaps between teeth, chipped or fractured teeth, crooked or decayed teeth, and stained teeth.

Veneers are a less expensive alternative to various cosmetic procedures such as teeth whitening, retainers, and braces. If you are not responding to other cosmetic dental treatments, veneers are the next best alternatives.

Caring for Your Veneers

Veneers can last anywhere from five to twenty years. The duration significantly depends on the type of veneer used and how many veneers are placed. To increase your veneers' longevity, regular visits with our professionals are recommended to avoid any oral health problems.

Certain care procedures are necessary to maintain your veneers. You should avoid consuming substances that will stain, chip, or cause damage to the veneers. In addition, you should floss and brush your teeth regularly.
